Zero Waste

Could one ordinary block get to nearly no landfill? Twenty-two Clintonville households tried for six months — with coaching, composting, and a shared swap shed.

Client

Block association pilot

Location

Clintonville, Columbus

Duration

6 months

Crew collecting sorted bags on a green residential street

Overview

Each home got organics totes, a swap-shed key, and a monthly coaching visit. We weighed every stream at the curb and posted the block's running diversion score on a shared leaderboard.

Final score: 94% diverted across 22 homes. Six households hit true zero-landfill months — and the swap shed never closed.

The challenge

Good intentions, confusing rules — wish-cycling contaminated bins and organics went straight to trash.

Our approach

Totes plus coaching: monthly porch visits, a shared swap shed, and a friendly block leaderboard.

The outcome

94% diversion block-wide, six zero-landfill households, and a playbook we're rolling out street by street.
